Ubuntu, Unity, Lenses, Amazon

Oh what a wonderful plate of drama Canonical set out when they tied their desktop UI to Amazon searches. The drama that's unfolded from Unity having ties to Amazon.com pulling in online sales pitch searches with local PC searches is amazing. That being said someone made a website to show you how to remove those searches from Ubuntu.

Fix Ubuntu Site

Canonical didn't like what they saw and sent in the lawyers. Well the EFF jumped in and here's the response that were sent back.

My how the mighty Ubuntu has fallen.

PhoneBloks

Ok.. a phone that you can build and customize? I would ditch my old non-smart phone for this in a heartbeat if I could. I really, REALLY hope this gets to market.

Escape from Tomorrow

Cheesy, corny, cute, but interesting how they shot it at Disney without Disney ever knowing during filming.

The New Copper Kings

I found this to be an interesting history lesson about bribes and politics. It's also interesting how history repeats and expands on itself today.

Partying Teenagers

I read a story where a bunch of teenagers broke in to some guys home. Apparently they knew his kids or something and while the family was out of town about 300 of them broke in to his house and trashed the place.

Anyhow all the kids twittered, facebooked, etc the whole thing in real time and the guy was watching his house get trashed. After everything was said and done and police cleared the place the guy decided to put the twitter and facebook postings on a website to name and shame the kids using their own public social media and the kids parents got upset.

Well you check out his site and see all the party people who got nailed for doing the wrong thing. (http://helpmesave300.com/)

Oh one other thing, they guy made an offer for them to come help clean up and basically own up to what they did. Out of 300 kids, only one showed up to do the right thing. To me that says something sad about how parents are raising their children these days. Still I'm glad one kid was raised well and mature enough to know they made a mistake and fess up to things.

Car Media Player

I don't think I talk too much about products and stuff but I have to say I bought this Soundfly SD MP3 player and it's been the bees knees in my car. I plug in an SD card and set it to an unused FM station and I'm rocking better then before with my old car radio. Plugs right in to the 12 volt lighter plug.

Since I bought this product I actually found others that might be cheaper. Not sure quality wise but so far this thing seems worth the money I paid for it. Still keep an eye out for better deals if you go looking for something like this.

Druids and WoW...

There are days I really miss playing my druids in World of Warcraft. So much so I remade one of my druids in Champions Online. I have to say he looks damn good compared to what he did in WoW. I only wish I could make my Tauren one as well. ;)

If anyone recognizes this Night Elf. This is exactly how I pictured him back in 2004 when I first signed on to WoW. Sadly he never got the bear shoulders (went to shamans and hunters as mail armor) and he never got the bear claw gloves (fist weapons druids couldn't use completely.)

Out of all the fancy armors Blizzard could ever make, all I asked for ultimately for Nim was something so simple and basic that he never got till the Champions game.

Old screen shots and stuff...

So I was flipping through some old screen shots I took before and I found this little gem.

This was taken during Wrath of the Lich King in WoW's life. I remember the gold farmers inspiring me to make one of those demotivational type posters a while back for WoW roleplay.

I still have great memories of awesome roleplay on my old WoW server Feathermoon. Guild fire story nights were the best even though, especially when I sat next to the best shaman that ever took me table dancing during vanilla days and on.

I miss the elf stomping and the drunken table dances in Scholomance.

Windows 8

Just cause I like classic Coke... in your face Windows 8.

Love,
My Desktop

PS. Some joking aside, the new Debian XFC CD looks pretty snazzy. I like how easy it was to make look like a classic computer desktop. Took me all but five minutes to get things looking like that out of the box. Best of all I have a menu unlike some other desktop interfaces which the only thing those have going for them is they aren't charging Microsoft's prices.

Education and Religion

All the time I hear stories about Creationism vs. Evolution and the drama that unfolds in the arguments of the two. Today I saw a small taste of that argument, behold a 4th grade science quiz from somewhere in South Carolina. The identity of the quiz taker was blacked out thankfully. No wonder education in America is going down the tubes when schools are doing this.

I was bored today..

So I was bored and went looking around the White House petition site. I then went surfing to Wired and CNN and saw articles on what amounts to a trillion dollar fighter jet project having more troubles yet again. This inspired me, I decided to create a petition to "End wasteful spending on government contractors that can not deliver goods on time and to specification."

So lets see where this goes. It won't be visible on the public White House site unless it gets 150 signatures.

Well it's 2013...

After two weeks vacation for Christmas and New Years it's 2013. During that time I played a bunch of Skyrim since it was the game I decided to treat myself to over the holiday. Long live the Empire and death to the Thalmor! The Thalmor embassy elves living near Solitude will long remember the battle cry I borrowed from my favorite shaman, "IT BOUNCES! KILL IT!" My mage had fun dancing on their tables afterwards.

Drama Alert: My mage is an Altmer elf. >_>

Though to make penance for the elf thing I am leveling a Nord barbarian. If you want to know what will happen at the embassy with him, Google "Hassan chop!" and think of the duck as the elves.
